viertelMobilität realizes cross-border e-bike sharing - will expand to trinational mobility offer
The city of Bad Säckingen in Germany and the community of Stein in Switzerland are only separated by the Rhine. in-tech creates a mobility offer that enables commuters and shopping tourists to move across borders: In cooperation with both municipalities, the in-tech business unit viertelMobilität is implementing a bike-sharing offer that will connect both countries. The service will go into operation from April 2021 with 20-30 e-bikes.
Expansion to a comprehensive mobility offer for the entire border region
Based on this, viertelMobilität will continue to expand its range of services step by step: Additional forms of mobility such as cargo bikes or electric vehicles will complete the mobility solution and create need-based services. "In the final stage we will establish a comprehensive regional mobility offer for the trinational Hochrhein region. In doing so, we will primarily focus on sustainable forms of mobility such as electric vehicles or bicycles", says Albert Habermann, Head of Business Unit New Mobility Solutions at in-tech.
The centerpiece is a central app that customers can use to book all vehicles - whether e-bike or car. As the operator, viertelMobilität provides the complete solution: "We provide the app, take care of vehicle maintenance, implement billing for private and corporate customers and manage the hotline and service," Habermann continues.
Local partners welcome
Sustainability and regional value creation take center stage - which is why viertelMobilität explicitly integrates local partners: Local companies, for example, can make their vehicle fleets available for use within the sharing system outside business hours, thus improving the utilization of their vehicles. Stadtwerke Bad Säckingen, which already operates a local car-sharing system, has already agreed to participate. Another partner is "Initiative Zukunftsmobilität", which advises local authorities on sustainable mobility solutions and takes over local coordination.
At a press event in Stein yesterday, Wednesday, both municipalities, together with ViertelMobilität, gave the official go-ahead for the project
