Smart, intuitive, and future-proof: A modern touch display has emerged from the successful collaboration between SENNEBOGEN and in-tech, serving as the centerpiece of the new SENcon control system.
Challenge
Since 1952, the Bavarian company SENNEBOGEN has been synonymous with custom mechanical engineering and has established itself as a market leader in crane technology and material handling. With a comprehensive portfolio ranging from telehandlers, crawler cranes, and rope excavators to large port cranes, SENNEBOGEN offers the right machine for every application.
As part of the continuous development of their machines, SENNEBOGEN set an ambitious goal: the development of a modern, user-friendly touch display as an integral component of the SENcon control system.
The display was to meet the following requirements:
Optimal usability for the driver in their daily work
Personalizable comfort elements
Expandability for future functions
Adaptability for various machines, configurations, and types
Integration of the SENNEBOGEN corporate design with the ability to adapt for other brands
Approach
In close collaboration with SENNEBOGEN, in-tech launched the project with a comprehensive workshop to precisely define the requirements, goals, and usage context of the new system. This involved a thorough analysis of the existing system and test drives with machines to gain deep insights. An iterative development approach allowed for the implementation of requirements in short, agile cycles.
in-tech relied on user-centered design to ensure that the touch display provides the driver with relevant information clearly and efficiently at all times. A new information architecture was developed to enable intuitive operation. Early visualization of the concept using wireframes allowed for early feedback from SENNEBOGEN, which was directly incorporated into the development.
Result
The developed 10-inch touch display now serves as the central element of the SENcon control system, combining modern technology with intuitive usability. It ensures more efficient and safer machine control and offers numerous advantages:
Detailed machine displays: The driver receives a precise visual representation of all machine states, leading to better control and higher safety.
Easy operation: Interactive hints and guides assist the driver in operating the machines and enable quick responses to error messages.
Direct and fast interaction: The touch display complements traditional hardware buttons and signal lights.
A special highlight is the customizable driver profiles:
Comfort settings such as climate control, radio, or joystick configuration can be individually saved to enhance driver comfort.
Machine parameters can be stored, making settings readily available depending on the application or driver. This increases efficiency and precision, especially in multi-shift operations.
"The new touch display sets new standards in the user-friendliness of our machines. The intuitive control and the ability for individual customization make working for our customers even more efficient and comfortable." (Sebastian Sennebogen, CEO SENNEBOGEN Maschinenfabrik GmbH)
Thanks to the close collaboration with in-tech, SENNEBOGEN was able to develop a pioneering control system that elevates the user-friendliness, safety, and efficiency of their machines to a new level. The innovative touch display is not only a technical highlight but also provides practical value for users, significantly easing their daily work on the construction site.
